So now Charlotte has the time to sew a gown for you to wear to the upcoming masquerade ball?
In the mid 1800s, when you currently live, the dance is considered quite scandalous although the garments the dancers' wear, especially at the famous Moulin Rouge dance hall, leave much to the imagination.
In 1867, the dance was introduced to America in Boston. Perhaps this is how Charlotte heard about the cancan.
In 1868, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is only 4 years old, but in just over two decades, he will be hired to paint posters to advertise the Moulin Rouge dance hall in Paris, France.
In 1891, these posters will solidify his reputation as a talented artist almost overnight.
At age 13, Henri will fracture his right leg and at age 14, will fracture his right leg. Neither of these breaks will heal properly and some doctors will diagnosis this as an unknown genetic disorder.
Because his legs will stop growing at this point, Henri will be extremely short as an adult (measuring 1.54 m or 4 ft. 8 in). Even though his torso will grow to a normal size for an adult, his legs will remain short.
Because he is unable to participate in activities such as sports, Henri will find his enjoyment and love of life in his artwork.
In adulthood, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec will spend much of his time in brothels where he is accepted unconditionally by the prostitutes and madams. These women will become a very important part of his paintings.
Due to complications from alcoholism and syphilis, Henri will die on September 9, 1901 at the age of 36, but his talent and fame will live on in his artwork forever.
